IPFS, what & why?

IPFS, or InterPlanetary File System, is a distributed file system designed to create a global, peer-to-peer method of storing and sharing hypermedia in a distributed file system. Unlike traditional web-based systems that rely on centralised servers, IPFS is decentralised and is built upon the principles of blockchain technology, decentralisation and openness.

IPFS relies on a series of decentralised nodes (not unlike the XRPL), which offer bandwidth and storage to the network. This distributed network empowers state of the art security and ownership for the metadata behind NFTs. Security and privacy have been mutually exclusive terms in blockchain, IPFS solves this too. Data can be encrypted and access controlled, providing a much more secure, exclusive and private future for collectability.

IPFS’s structure enables us to provide a truly decentralised, immutable and secure solution to music NFT storage, which is why we view it as the gold standard for NFTs.

Here at NFTempo we are committed to best practice above all, and our quest to further decentralisation on the XRPL has been at the top of this list. Over the last three months we have achieved a number of key milestones in our mission to realising this mission. We Have deployed our own in-house servers, deployed IPFS and are nearing launch day for music video NFTs.

The Server

After successfully launching our music marketplace, the NFTempo team unanimously decided to embark on a ground-breaking journey – the creation of a cutting-edge, in-house server infrastructure. Our unwavering belief in a decentralized future for Web3 propelled our server initiative to the forefront of our priorities.

The comprehensive infrastructure setup required for migrating away from AWS and MonoDB was an enormous endeavour, both in terms of capital investment and man-hours. However, we foresaw that as NFTempo continued to expand, our investment would be more than worthwhile. Not only did it promise to eliminate over USD$5,000 in monthly capital expenditures, but it also aimed to enhance the user experience significantly.

The deployment of our in-house server naturally came with the initial phase of bug fixing, which we diligently pursued and successfully resolved. Looking forward, our server capacity empowers us to execute a complete overhaul of the marketplace's UI, with a laser focus on delivering an exceptional user experience, rather than merely optimizing bandwidth.

Most notably, this monumental capacity expansion has ushered in what we believe to be an exhilarating new chapter in the history of NFTs – the era of music video NFTs.

V2

As NFTempo continues its dynamic expansion, we feel it's the perfect moment to elevate the tempo of our marketplace. Building on the successful launch of music videos, we are excited to unveil our next venture: "NFTempo V2". This represents a comprehensive transformation of our user interface, with a strong emphasis on user-friendliness, captivating aesthetics, and an array of exciting new features.

In the near future, we will be releasing a detailed change log that outlines all the enhancements and innovations coming your way. What's more, we are committed to incorporating valuable insights from our vibrant community into every aspect of our UI enhancements. Your feedback and ideas will be the core of our design process.

TL;DR

NFTempo now uses IPFS because it's fully decentralised. NFTempo migrated to an in-house server. We’re days away from launching music video NFTs and we’re about to overhaul the UI as part of “NFTempo V2”.
